When it comes to document capture, that feeling of being
overwhelmed can suddenly increase. We totally get that.

Umango is a global leader in document scanning, file conversion, and imaging software. Their <g class="gr_ gr_5 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" id="5" data-gr-id="5">file</g> scanning software, Umango Convert, and their document scanning software, Umago Extract are powerful, easy to install, and simple to use. Here are 6 must-know terms when it comes to umango’s document capture software.

OCR

OCR, or Optical Character Recognition,
lets you convert a variety of types of documents liked scanned papers, PDFs, or
digital camera images into searchable data that can also be edited. Say you
have a document with a preprinted code that needs to be read, using OCR you can
search for a word or phrase located in different areas of the paperwork. You
can also view an area on the document allowing you to highlight the word or
phrase to be extracted.

OCR can also be used to extract information from images.
Umango Extract supports zonal OCR giving you smart data extraction and routing
right at your fingertips. Save time, increase productivity, and improve
accuracy with umango extract.

PDF

In 1991, Adobe cofounder Dr. John Warnock created what we now call PDF or Portable Document Format. PDFs are used to display documents electronically making them independent of the software, hardware, or system they are viewed on. PDFs offer security, are multi-dimensional, and allow you to virtually edit them.

An awesome and much needed invention that also helps save the environment, PDFs are used daily within businesses. Umango Convert lets you easily convert documents into text-searchable PDFs. Likewise, umango Extract includes PDFs as a supported exported file format.

TIFF

Tagged
Image File Format, or TIFF is a raster file format for digital
images, which can be edited. TIFF is mainly used for editing and storage, like
stored photos that will be edited to be scanned or printed. TIFF files also
don’t compress for smaller files to preserve their quality.

Umango Convert will convert your documents into TIFF files,
while umango Extract lets you extract data, from TIFF files, export the file
and/or route them to a destination.

FTP

One of the oldest protocols still used today, FTP, or File Transfer Protocol is a way of transferring files between computers. Documents can be put into the FTP server your website is hosted on. This makes sharing files and documents a little easier since you can send someone a link to the FTP that has the required documents.

FTP uploads are one of the many connectors umango includes for storing. Using umango’s FTP uploads as a connector can make for easier access to your documents. Data that you extract from a document can also be uploaded to your FTP server using umango Extract.

KFI

Umango Extract includes Key From Image, which is also known
as KFI. There will be some documents where data will have to be found with the
human eye. With extract’s KFI function,
you can zoom into a part of the document or image and type in information you
see.

When processing the document, you can manually type the
information or use the lasso OCR tool to read the selected information. With
this, there is no limit to how you describe your chosen parts of the document.

ADR

ADR, or Auto Document Recognition is a useful function to
detect document types. Umango Extract uses ADR to help you detect document
types and extract the data you need from them. You can also use umango Convert
to convert the document type into the one you need.

Learning all the technical terminology can be a little tricky and time-consuming.
