World Blood Donor Day: ecoprintQ Donates Blood!

On Friday, June 14th, ecoprintQ hosted a blood drive. The big red bus came to our office where ecoprintQ, as well as the offices in our building, signed up to donate blood. Greeted by an incredible staff the process was simple and quick. ecoprintQ’s marketing manager, Dianna was the first one up!

Calm, cool and collected through the process when asked why she chose to donate blood, Dianna simply said, “I know what’s it’s like to need blood, so this is my way of giving back and helping others who need it.”

While donating, the staff talked us through the process a bit as well reasons why people should donate. While needles can be a bit scary, the fear is nothing compared to the feeling you get knowing you could be saving a life. Here are 3 things to know about donating blood:

Why You Should Donate

You can save a life, or several lives. The blood you donate can be used for transfusions, women with complications of pregnancy during or after childbirth, trauma patients, children with severe anemia, and many others. There are some people and children that require regular transfusions because of conditions like sickle cell disease and thalassemia. By donating blood, you become a hero for someone else and their loved ones.

The blood you choose to donate can be broken up into different components. Red cells, platelets, and plasma can be used individually for patients with specific conditions. Regular blood donations are needed because blood can only be stored for a limited amount of time before use. While you don’t need to do it monthly, consider doing it even a few times a year.

If You’re Considering Donating

If you’re thinking about donating but aren’t sure if you’re eligible, check out these Can I Donate facts from Oneblood. Worried about the needle? It’s very common for people to avoid donating because of the needle, however, when it comes to donating, the only sensation you may feel is a slight sting or pinch.

One pint of blood is typically the amount donated, so if you’re considering it, make sure to have a light healthy meal and drink plenty of water.  The process itself takes about 10-15 minutes, not counting the time taken to answer some questions and get your blood and iron levels checked.
